This writing program was developed by experienced teachers Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay, in response to the difficulty many children encounter in the transition from the ball and stick printed letterforms to the looped cursive. The child initially learns the basic italic printed letter forms, followed by the cursive italic through a series of joins, eliminating the need to learn two distinctly different types of handwriting, as is the case with ball and stick printing and the looped cursive.
The main philosophy behind the Getty-DubayTM Italic Handwriting Series is to teach children and adults a legible handwriting method that is retained over time. The root of the letterform is used, nothing more, resulting in a crisp, clear handwriting that is as simple as it is elegant.
We believe italic is the best possible method available to teach legible handwriting to children and adults. It will retain its practical value as a lifetime communication tool no matter how it is used. Italic handwriting is distinctive and surprisingly easy to teach and learn. Once you try it, no other handwriting will compare with its simplicity, legibility and usefulness.
