Located in the heart of Virginia, Liberty University provides a Christian, comprehensive, coeducational environment. The University is situated on a 160-acre campus with complete classroom, dormitory, study, leisure, recreational facilities and a Visitor's Center. There are nearly 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the traditional resident program, and 11,000 students in the Distance Learning Program. Liberty's facilities include the 4,000-seat gym / multi-purpose center where students can participate in intramural activities, a 12,000-seat football stadium, the 9,000 seat Vines Center where competing basketball teams play & convocations are held, and the new LaHaye Student Center, located on Campus North and totaling 35,000 square feet of basketball courts, an Olympic sized swimming pool, and a 4,000 square foot weight room. In addition, a new ice rink facility will be completed on the main campus in 2005. Distance education students have access to the on-line library with over 20,000 full text books, 200 research databases, 8,500 full-text journals, and personal assistance with research projects, are given an LU email account, and have access to the University help desk for technical support. Founded in 1971, Liberty is approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Not only are courses offered in an on-campus traditional format, but via Distance Learning as well, including: on-campus week-long intensives, online courses, video-cassette, and DVD. All graduate programs have minimal residency requirements, and undergraduate degrees require no residency. | |
